About Me

Hey there! My name is Val, and I am a therapist based in NYC and owner of West Pardo Psychotherapy.

I believe that seeking mental health care is a courageous first step in the pursuit of a fulfilling and meaningful life, and I’m really glad you’re here! Here’s a bit about me:

My therapeutic style is compassionate, authentic, and direct. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship above all else - creating trust and a sense of safety within sessions that encourages my clients to be their most authentic selves. I serve as a companion in my clients’ journeys of self-exploration, empowering them, and helping them take a close look at how relationships, past experiences, and multicultural forces may be playing a role in their current challenges.

I am especially passionate about working with those struggling with relational anxiety, perfectionism, and with those wanting to heel emotional wounds stemming from family-of-origin trauma. As a first-generation immigrant, I also enjoy supporting those learning to balance more than one cultural identity in a way that feels true to themselves. I am happy to use my fluency in Spanish with clients who are more comfortable expressing themselves in their native language. In addition to working with individuals, I use Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help couples learn tools to manage conflict, deepen friendship, and increase intimacy in their relationship.

During my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, dancing while I cook (dancing successfully, cooking often unsuccessfully), and playing with my two fur babies.

If you have any questions or would like to hear more about what working together would be like, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss whether we would be a good fit for each other.

I look forward to hearing from you!
